Why the logistics industry deserves better PR – and how we can help

18.12.2025 | KnowledgeAffairs

According to a recent Bitkom study, around three-quarters of Germans will order their Christmas gifts online this year. In times of steadily growing e-commerce, logistics is becoming increasingly important. However, the logistics industry not only ensures that our gifts arrive under the Christmas tree on time – it is also the third-largest employer in Germany, a driver of innovation, and plays a decisive role in Germany's competitiveness.

The image problem: When problems make headlines

Nevertheless, the industry is struggling with a significant image problem. Many people associate logistics primarily with congested roads due to delivery vehicles or frustrating parcel deliveries. In addition, despite employing 3 million people in Germany, logistics is not considered an attractive employer by many – a perception problem that is particularly painful in times of skilled labor shortages.

Over a decade of experience in logistics communications

At HeadlineAffairs, we have been supporting the public relations work of logistics companies for over a decade. Whether through media training for stakeholders, the preparation of press materials, proactive media appointments, the organization of visitor tours, site and crisis communications, or media monitoring. We therefore know firsthand that the industry is full of stories that want to be told – they just need the right stage.

For one of our clients, for example, we have been handling communications surrounding the "Tag der Logistik" for years. In collaboration with local newspapers, we have organized numerous readers' tours that have taken hundreds of visitors behind the scenes of modern logistics sites – resulting in dozens of positive media reports that have significantly improved the company's image. But even outside of such campaign days, we see in our daily work that there is public interest in these stories.

Hidden hero stories: From job diversity to career opportunities

Personally, in addition to all the modern technology and sophisticated processes, I am particularly enthusiastic about the job diversity and career opportunities in logistics. What many people don't realize is that it's not just packers and pickers who work in a large logistics center. Such locations often also offer career and training opportunities in areas such as mechatronics, IT, HR, workplace safety, and much more. This is exactly where successful PR strategies come in, helping you to position your company as an attractive employer and valuable neighbor.

During our on-site visits, we have often met people who started out in simple entry-level roles and then progressed to become managers or even site leads. We have often worked with our clients to identify such success stories, select the appropriate media format, and ultimately place them in the public eye – in the form of profiles in regional newspapers, features in trade media, or social media campaigns.
